The Pixel Farm: PFClip, PFPlay, PFTrack
PFClip is a RAM based resolution independent clip player that offers real time playback of 10-bit uncompressed footage on all platforms thus allowing a clip to be viewed in context using a simple drag and drop interface. PFClip provides a simple and cost-effective solution for review or presentation of single or multiple image sequences using Smart Cache RAM based playback. Using optimized GPU operations, full performance can be attained with standard hardware while still offering real time features including 3D Look Up Tables (LUTs) and analysis tools. You don’t have to go out and buy a ‘workstation’ level graphics card to get playback performance. Smart Cache is a new caching technology developed by The Pixel Farm that allows cached clips once to be reused any number of times. For example, once a clip has been cached it can be reused in another sequence and it will still be cached so speeding up performance. Unlike other systems, there is no eed to re-render clips when performing operation such as 3D LUT adjustments. PFClip allows artists to quickly view clips in context on the desktop using the same robust and highly optimised playback engine found in PFPlay.
PFPlay is by far the most cost effective, resolution independent film pre-visualisation system available. How PFPlay is used is very much dependant on the implementation within your facility. Due to its flexibility PFPlay can be quickly integrated into any production pipeline. From the QC of special effects shots to off line QA of edits or a full digital screening of an entire movie PFPlay can deliver real-time playback up to 4K. PFPlay can be used with local storage at a departmental level or can function as a network-attached device as a facility wide resource. PFPlay can be set to automatically conform timelines using data from EDLs building high resolution versions of your edits for review and approval. Automatic or scheduled updates of new sequence renders, mean the timeline is always up to date and version 2.0 adds the ability to manage your footage and projects via the Internet. You are therefore always able to review the latest work removing approval delays and multi version confusion.
PFTrack, already the most advanced camera tracking solution available, now reaches new heights of operability with over 30 new features including advanced object tracking, geometry tracking, editable f-curves, imbedded image based modelling tools and automatic z depth extraction. The new camera solver is now much faster and enables the software to deal with the most complex of shots. Version 3.0 can now track many separate moving objects within a sequence, as well as solving camera motion issues - you simply export data from tracking groups, whether it’s camera data, object movement or motion-capture sessions. With the addition of the unique geometry tracking, 3.0 now allows 3D geometry to be imported into PFTrack and then matched to sequences, making this an ideal tool for head and facial replacement meaning artists can now be confident that animated CG, when rendered and composited, will exactly match the live action. Complex geometry can be imported and used to solve cameras in addition to the use of automatic or user placed features. This is perfect for problematic shots or for tracking set extention models into footge. New fully editable F-curves within PFTrack make cleaning up tracking data extremely easy and accurate. You can quickly view and edit each individual property of the camera within a graph editor in the timeline – curves can be represented by both linear and Bezier splines and simply smoothed or edited using the tools provided. Once edited, the new camera solver quickly produces a new camera without the need to totally resolve every parameter in the sequence. The new, fully integrated image based modelling capabilities allow users to quickly build up 3D environments by using the background image as a guide. Previously this has only been available as a stand alone system, so the improved image based modelling tools in 3.0 provide an integrated environment which delivers a much more flexible solution. Perfect for pre-visualisation and animation guidance, textured models can be exported to all major 3D applications. Integrated Z depth extraction tools assign depth data, on a per pixel basis, to sequences for exporting as a grey map. This data can be viewed within PFTrack, in 3D, using the new orthographic view options which can then be broken down into any number of layers.
