Crow Black Chicken - Electric Soup (2012)
EAC | FLAC | Tracks (Cue&Log) ~ 488 Mb (incl 5%) | Mp3 (CBR320) ~ 185 Mb (incl 5%) | Scans included
Genre: Blues Rock | Label: Crow Black Chicken | # none | Time: 01:02:24

The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Cream are among the first groups that come to mind when discussing classic power trios. Ireland's Taste, led by guitarist Rory Gallagher, were also there at the beginning. They were raw, rocked hard, and were more devoted to the blues. Gallagher kept the trio format long after going solo, and became a fine songwriter as well. Crow Black Chicken are his countrymen. Christy O'Hanlon (vocals, guitar), Stephen McGrath (bass), and Gev Barrett (drums, backing vocals) have soaked up his and his contemporaries' influences, as well other loud and proud trios: ZZ Top, Mountain, Gov't Mule, etc. Electric Soup is their debut long-player. It's an excellent showcase for CBC's stunning playing and excellent songwriting -- the latter is something many of their contemporaries never learned. These are not mere riff-heavy stoner rock jams, but songs. While they keep things basic, CBC understand the place of melody and dynamics; they've soaked up their share of folk and country in addition to blues and guitar rock.

Think - We'll Give You A Buzz (1976) [Reissue 2008]
EAC Rip | FLAC (image+.cue+log) - 251 MB | MP3 CBR 320 kbps (LAME 3.93) - 107 MB | Covers (14 MB) included
Genre: Progressive Rock | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: SouthSide (4281)

"Think" was a little known band from New Zealand which recorded only one album called "We'll Give You A Buzz" in 1976. Music on this disk sounds completely like early 70s British art/prog rock. When listening to this album you can immediately think about such bands as "Cressida", "Spring", "Fantasy", "Badger", "Mainhorse" or early "Yes". Just like these groups "Think" plays very melodic, sometimes laid-back prog-rock full of warm Hammond B-3 sounds which create this special classic 70s atmosphere. Seems that New Zealand is so far from Europe that these guys just didn't know that such music was already unfashionable and "démodé" when they started to play it. And thank God that they didn't realize it 'cos we can enjoy this great record.

Label/Cat#: Rev-Ola # crrev 230 | Country/Year: UK 2007, 1968
Genre: Rock | Style: Classic Rock, West Coast Psychedelic

"From the mid sixties comes this lost gem of West Coast country and rock. They had only a handful of singles and this lone album to mark their place in music history. This has never been on disc until now. As you would expect the sound is country at its core, but makes room for some soulful rock and roll. This is truly a find and we are glad to offer it for all of you Steve Young collectors who’ve asked about it over the years." -Village Records

The first solo album from monster alternative guitarist Belew comes in the middle of Robert Fripp's early-'80s reformulation of King Crimson, so it's no surprise that many a Crimson-esque herky-jerky guitar run and melody line pops up among Belew's other trademark sound, that of the animal-turned-guitar wail...

Experimental Rock / Avant-Garde / Art Rock / Ambient

Before and After Science is really a study of "studio composition" whereby recordings are created by deconstruction and elimination: tracks are recorded and assembled in layers, then selectively subtracted one after another, resulting in a composition and sound quite unlike that at the beginning of the process. Despite the album's pop format, the sound is unique and strays far from the mainstream. Eno also experiments with his lyrics, choosing a sound-over-sense approach.

Various Artist - Foreigner Tribute (2001)
EAC Rip | FLAC Image + Cue + Log - 369 MB | MP3 CBR @320 kbps - 119 MB | Full scans - 41.6 MB
Label: Escape Music | Catalog.#: ESM061 | Genre: Melodic Hard Rock, AOR

Dig those graphics! This tribute to Foreigner features a gaggle of MOR pop/rock combos tackling many of the band's biggest songs. They do that a fine job -- Lou Gramm isn't the easiest guy to sound like, and most of the players here pull it off ably. But while it's always satisfactory, Tribute to Foreigner is more slick than spectacular. But that giddy crunch that defined "Hot Blooded" and "Feels Like the First Time" isn't here, seemingly replaced by carefully paced but ultimately quite soulless replicas.
