The Rolling Stones - Look What We've Done: The Complete Chess Recordings 1964-1965 (2012)
Blues Rock | MP3 320 kbps CBR | 79 min | 184 MB
Label: Acid Project | Rel: 2012

When the Rolling Stones arrived at Chess Records in June of 1964 – then located at 2120 South Michigan Avenue on Chicago's South Side – it was more a pilgrimage to hallowed grounds than simply another recording session. They were impressionable youth – Mick Jagger and Keith Richards barely 20 years old, Brian Jones 22, Charlie Watts 23, Ian Stewart 25 and Bill Wyman the elder statesman at 27 – playing in the same studio spaces as their blues and R&B idols, the performers they'd been emulating. Although Chess Records did not allow groups not signed to the label to use its studios, Andrew Loog Oldham, the Rolling Stones manager and producer, nonetheless reached out to make a case for his burgeoning band. He found a receptive ear in Marshall Chess.

Marianne Faithfull - Love In A Mist (1967) (Japan Edition 2002)
Baroque Pop, Singer Songwriter | MP3 320 kbps CBR | 48 min | 112 MB
Label: Decca, Universal | Rel: 2002

Faithfull's final album of the 1960s (she would do one more single, in 1969) was a confused, patchy effort that seemed indicative of musical directionless. There was overblown, orchestrated straight pop (the cover of the Beatles' "Yesterday"), numbers where she seemed to be attempting to be a British Edith Piaf of sorts, and covers of contemporary folk-rock tunes by Donovan and Tim Hardin. Also, a couple of the better songs ("This Little Bird" and "Counting") had long been available on singles, from 1965 and 1966, respectively. This would have been categorized as "eclectic" rather than "directionless" if the material had been better, the arrangements more inspired, and the singing more commanding, but that wasn't the case on any of those counts. There are still some enjoyable bits, like the cover of "Young Girl Blues," and particularly the version of Jackie DeShannon's moody "With You in Mind." At the time, it was likely seen as something to fill in the gaps in the absence of better material.

The Robert Cray Band - Midnight Stroll (1990)
EAC | FLAC | Image (Cue&Log) ~ 412 Mb (incl 5%) | Mp3 (CBR320) ~ 161 Mb (incl 5%) | Scans included
Genre: Modern Electric Blues, Soul-Blues | Label: Mercury | # 846 652-2 | Time: 00:50:02

Robert Cray adds a bit more soul to the mix on this album, which features the Memphis Horns most prominently. Most of the songs are Cray doing what Cray does best--slow, soulful, done-me-wrong (or, alternatively, I-done-wrong) songs chock full of great guitar. No complaints there, and when he adds a bit of vocal growl here and there, as on the album opener "The Forecast (Calls for Pain)" (also featuring some excellent bass from Richard Cousins), and the slow shuffle "Holdin' Court," it keeps things interesting. This album indicates a slight shift in Cray's direction; although he's always included a touch of soul in his blues, here it's more pronounced than before, a tendency he continued in subsequent recordings.

Genre: Techno, Downtempo, Ambient | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Apollo (AMB 3925 CD)

Arguably the most underrated electronic album of 1994, Visions of the Past alternates between songs of uptempo trance beauty and slower ambient cuts so sinister that the flesh crawls. The best example of the former is "Aqua Viva," a 12-minute dolphin epic with dolphin sounds; of the eerie tracks, "Northern Dark," "Dream or Reality" and the title track are the most paranoid...

My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult - Death Threat (2009)
Electronic | 1cd | EAC Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | covers
Sleazebox RBL023 | rel: 2009 | 340Mb

TKK continue to evolve their sound with Death Threat, taking a more rock 'n roll approach compared to the dancier/disco sound of their last album, "The Filthiest Show In Town". Fans of earlier TKK will like Invasion (of the ultra modelz) - as this hearkens back to the bands earlier and much darker sound. It would fit in perfectly on Confessions Of A Knife. They use more guitar here than they have in recent albums - tracks like the swaggering Foxxxy Rockit and the heavy industrial rock of Witchpunkrockstar show that this band is in fine form and far from extinct.

MPEG-4 AVC Video 9000kbps, 1080i, 16:9 | PCM 2.0, 1500Kbps/DTS HD MA 5.1, 2100 Kbps

If Daniel Barenboim is not the world's greatest living classical musician he is certainly the most versatile. In a career spanning more than 50 years, his name is attached to many of the celebrated recordings of opera, symphony, small ensemble and piano solo. With the later half of his career marked by distinction at the podium, one may forget that he is still an accomplished concert pianist. Here we are treated to both talents as Barenboim conducts the Staatskapelle Berlin and plays all five of Beethoven's piano concerti...
