Rachael Dadd - We Resonate
Folk, Indie Pop, Singer-Songwriter | MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 43:51 min | 108 MB + 5% Recovery
Label: Talitres | Tracks: 12 | Rls.date: 15-09-2014

Born from the richness of Rachael Dadd`s semi-nomadic lifestyle, partly recorded live in a studio followed by playful overdubbing in Rachael’s front room, ‘We Resonate’ carves out a niche of its own, crossing genres from folk, through pop and experimental. Pulsing with poly-rhythms on prepared-piano, homemade xylophone, voice, clarinets, typewriter, boxes of matches, steel drum, tap-dancing, clapping, and even the heartbeat of Rachael’s baby in the womb, it reveals that her love of African field-recordings and the spirit embodied within them has seeped into the diverse mix of influences, along with Steve Reich, Tune Yards, and the Japanese underground/ improv scene.

Three old friends, who played together in an 80's cover band, keyboardist Adam Rabin, drummer Ornan McLean and guitarist John "Lefty" Whyte, decided to fill their need for original Progressive Rock, forming Elephants of Scotland in 2010 in Burlington, Vermont. Their debut (Home Away From Home, 2013), for those of you who missed out on it, was a splendid and well-rewarded work that had everything to stroke the progressive heart, including a sublime package in terms of cover and artwork but most importantly, a set list of shockingly brilliant prog, full of ballsy progressions, swift and nimble playing, infusing the whole with exhilaration. Some noticed Rush influences, others Marillion...

Gerry Mulligan - Jazz America (2011)
Video: NTSC, MPEG-2 at 6 700 Kbps, 720 x 480 at 29.970 fps | Audio: AC-3 2 channels at 192 Kbps, 48.0 KHz
Genre: Jazz | Label: Mvd Visual | Copy: Untouched | Release Date: 1 Aug 2011 | Runtime: 60 min. | 2,93 GB (DVD5)

The film's opening alternates clips of Mulligan smiling, playing his baritone sax and speaking. That brief documentary sequence establishes the good feeling that prevails in this 1981 performance at Eric's, a New York club. From there on, it's all music. Mulligan's rhythm section—pianist Harold Danko, bassist Frank Luther, drummer Billy Hart—are locked into the spirit, one another and their leader. It's a flawless set of Mulligan tunes of the period, including “North Atlantic Run," “Song for Strayhorn" and “K-4 Pacific." Gary Keys' cinematography has the intimacy of tight closeups, just enough camera movement and no cute tricks. The sound by Jim Anderson is excellent.

The Clash: Live - Revolution Rock (2008)
Video: NTSC, MPEG-2 at 5 272 Kbps, 720 x 480 at 29.970 fps | Audio: AC-3 2ch. at 224 Kbps, PCM 2ch. at 1 536 Kbps
Genre: Rock | Label: Sony | Copy: Untouched | Release Date: 6 Oct 2008 | Runtime: 82 min. | 4,09 GB (DVD5)

In terms of the music, The Clash Live: Revolution Rock would be a decent acquisition for fans of the band. There is some rare footage from concerts across the world (everywhere from Munich to Glasgow), and 22 songs are featured throughout the course of the DVD. What is lacking the documentary element to it all. Every once in a while you might get a sentence or two about what The Clash was doing around the time of the performance seen, but it's brief and doesn't reveal too much new information.

Grey Area - 2 Albums (1999-2005)
EAC Rip | FLAC (image+.cue+log) - 830 MB | MP3 CBR 320 kbps (LAME 3.93) - 316 MB | Covers - 164 MB
Genre: Dub, Experimental, Downtempo, Ambient | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Psy-Harmonics, Waveform Records

Grey Area is an acclaimed down-under electronic music act from Sydney, Australia. The project of composer, producer and DJ, Alex Salter. Grey Area formed in 1992 and followed with a self-titled debut release Grey Area in 1997 - a bubbly concoction of looped percussion, heavily affected voice and instrument samples as well as countless overdubs and studio manipulation. The album was well received to positive reviews worldwide. Grey Area also began playing to audiences in 1997 and those live tracks plus several studio pieces resulted in the next release, Absolute (1999). Absolute took a more technological approach to the first album, with a slower more solemn feel and a more mature and cohesive overall production.

Spyro Gyra - Down The Wire (2009)
Jazz | 1cd | EAC Rip | Wv + Cue + Log | covers
Heads Up HUCD3154 | rel: 2009 | 475Mb

Creatively, Spyro Gyra have certainly had their ups and downs over the years. Leader/saxophonist Jay Beckenstein and his colleagues have recorded some real gems along the way, but they have also recorded their share of boring, forgettable "elevator muzak." Thankfully, there isn't an iota of "elevator muzak" to be found on Down the Wire, which is among the studio albums that captures the sort of energy and vitality Spyro Gyra are known for projecting on-stage. There are no misguided attempts to emulate Kenny G, Richard Elliot, or Najee on this 2009 release; Down the Wire is a legitimate fusion album -- accessible and melodic, but risk-taking, edgy, and faithful to jazz' improvisatory spirit.

Midge Ure & Ultravox - If I Was: The Very Best Of Midge Ure & Ultravox (1993)

Midge Ure's career, as fans well know, did not begin or end with Ultravox, and so If I Was: The Very Best of Midge Ure & Ultravox attempts to give an overview of one of '80s' Britain's most popular singers. As a career retrospective goes, however, it's pretty spotty.

New Model Army - High (2007)
Rock | 1cd | EAC Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | covers
Attack Attack ATK2312 | rel: 2007 | 405Mb

Milestone studio LP number ten for Bradford, England's NMA is their best and most jarring since 1993's The Love of Hopeless Causes, and possibly 1986's blistering The Ghost of Cain. It's a seat-of-the-pants ride through punk-edged rock and cooling breather songs, taking all of Justin Sullivan's long experience and transmitting it into something so fierce but beautiful that it's often breathtaking. Whoever picked Chris Kimsey to produce was on the ball; High recalls the resounding hellfire of his Killing Joke work on 1984's Night Time and 1986's Brighter Than a Thousand Suns. (Think "Eighties" and "Love Like Blood") And these guitars and organs are like a Geordie hollow-body Gretsch attack! Three songs speak volumes for this corker.

T-Model Ford - Bad Man (2002)
EAC | FLAC | Image (Cue&Log) ~ 271 Mb (incl 5%) | Mp3 (CBR320/Stereo) ~ 122 Mb (incl 5%) | Scans included
Genre: Blues | Label: Fat Possum Records | # 80363-2 | Time: 00:41:12

What goes around comes around in the blues world. Although T-Model Ford is from Mississippi, not all of his influences are Mississippi Delta influences -- his dusky, moody electric blues also owe something to Chicago (Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf), Detroit (John Lee Hooker), and Texas (Lightnin' Hopkins). Of course, Waters, Hooker, and Wolf were all born in Mississippi; they were Southern bluesmen who moved north, plugged in, and became identified with electric post-World War II Northern blues. But Hooker wasn't born in Detroit any more than Waters and Wolf were born in Chicago. So again, what goes around comes around in the blues world. Whether you describe Ford's approach as Northern or Southern -- and truth be told, it's a combination of the two -- Bad Man is a compelling slice of tough, gritty, genuinely lowdown blues. The things that make Ford so compelling are his soulfulness and his lack of slickness. The singer/guitarist doesn't clean things up; he just digs in, lets the emotion flow, and tells you exactly how he feels.

Lissy Walker - Wonderland (2014)
MP3 320 kbps CBR | 64:34 min | 152 MB
Genre: Vocal Jazz | Label: Dogwood Records

The songs on Wonderland deal in dreams and illusions, desires fulfilled and unfulfilled, and the power of reflection and intent. Walker’s sweet, smoky, purring alto is perfectly suited to these songs of yearning. The focus is on songs from two great songwriting eras: swing tunes from the 20s/early 30s and folk ballads from the 70s. Walker’s rich vocals have a hint of restrained passion that suggest country music, but her phrasing, which dances around and before the beat, is pure jazz. Her interpretations, and the brilliance of the band, blend the two eras together, resulting in a classic, yet contemporary, vibe—a perfect hybrid.

Jo-Hannah Reynolds - Change of Plans (2014)
MP3 320 kbps CBR | 43:56 min | 102 MB
Genre: Vocal Jazz | Label: Jo-Hannah Reynolds

This is Jo-Hannah Reynolds' debut album and the collection of original songs explores everything from folk to jazz and blues to gospel to soulful pop ballad. The lyrics are reflective, pensive, and thought-provoking as she explores every facet of the human experience. Subtle and often understated, her songs are not afraid to ask questions without the need to provide the answers. Her intimate vocals pull the listener into the story. The organic live recording is a refreshing change of pace in today's musical climate.
