Otto Klemperer . Wiener Philharmoniker [8 CD set]
Live Radio Broadcasts | Flac+cue+log - Full Scans | 2.6 GB

From the Notes by Mike Ashman "....1968, a year of political turmoil in the world, began for Klemperer with a recording of the Dresden version of Wagner's Der Fliegende Holländer. After further London concerts (including Mahler's Ninth), he came to Vienna in May for a series of five Sunday morning programmes, ranging from Bach to Stravinsky, including two works (Bruckner's Fifth and Petrushka) from his first-ever season with the orchestra [1933]. 'There was some wonderful music making, and the tapes of the concerts confirm the quality of our work together'...[from bassist and music historian, Alfred Planyavsky]" . In 1968 Klemperer was 83 years old....

Joan Sutherland (The Art of Joan Sutherland, Serate musicali) [Box Set] (2005)
Classical | EAC rip | APE (Image+.Cue) + LOG | Scans | Decca | 8 CD, 2.43 GB

This is my favorite Sutherland collection. It has so much from so many periods. The bits from The French Opera Gala are beyond belief. It is some of the best coloratura she ever did and was recorded at a great part of her career. Both the Wagner and the Mozart discs were recorded when she was close to 60, which doesn't mean that much with Sutherland. Still it would have been great to have heard the Wagner recorded a decade earlier when she recorded the Turandot. She would have been better at Wagner than anyone around today. Not Nilsson or Flagstad's equal, but better by far than Voigt, who isn't bad. On the Mozart bits, a couple sound old, but the rest are as good a performance of Mozart as you are ever going to hear. Many people only like the young Sutherland, but I like the color and richness her voice developed with age.

Great Conductors of the 20th Century
Emi Classics | 2002/2003 | 40 double CD | 40 RAR | 8.67 Gb
MP3 192 Kbps | Lame encoded | Tracks | Covers

Great Conductors of the 20th Century celebrates the so many superstar performers of the last century, conductors who collectively shaped the course of classical music.
Sixty volumes were planned with hopes for even more. Unfortunately it seems that only forty will be issued. Thus, rather than a proud celebration of the full wealth of this keystone of classical art, the truncated result is tinged with regret for what might have been.

Vivaldi - Catone in Utica
3 CD | Naive | 2013 | RAR | 246Mb
MP3 192 Kbps | Lame encoded | Tracks, Covers

Naive's Vivaldi Edition is proud to release another of the unknown operas by Antonio Vivaldi. Conducted by one of the masters of baroque opera, Alan Curtis, and gathering an impressive vocal cast (Topi Lehtipuu, Roberta Mameli, Ann Hallenberg, Sonia Prina), Catone in utica marks the 15th opera in the series and is one of the Venetian master's great, late operas.

Bach Edition (Brilliant, 160CDs)
160 CD | Brilliant | 161 ZIP, 13GB | digital booklet
MP3 192 Kbps | Lame encoded | Tracks | 2000

The Brilliant Classics set stands out for several reasons. First, they attempted (though did not fully succeed) to create a complete set entirely recorded on period instruments, using historically informed performances. As their web site states, "The new recordings follow scrupulously the newest developments and insights offered by the leading Early Music scholars as regards the performance practice of Baroque music in general and the music of Bach in particular."...

Mstislav Rostropovich - The Complete Decca Recordings [5CD BoxSet] (2012) {Decca Music}

Classical / Cello

In the early 1960s, when Rostropovich was just beginning his international career, he made a handful of recordings for Decca. This 2012 box -- issued for what would have been his 85th birthday -- brings those albums together. It includes all of the works Benjamin Britten specifically wrote for Rostropovich: the two suites, the sonata, and the Symphony for cello and orchestra, accompanied or conducted by the composer himself, making these definitive versions. There are also other sonatas they collaborated on, including Schubert's "Arpeggione" Sonata, which was apparently one of Rostropovich's favorites of all his recordings.

Jacqueline du Pre’s career, though tragically brief, coincided with a golden age of recording. This 17-disc treasury unites her entire EMI Classics legacy and includes – for the first time on CD – two Bach sonata movements from her 1962 debut recital for the label. Interpretations long recognised as classic are joined by further rarities, among them the Lalo Cello Concerto, recorded with Daniel Barenboim and the Cleveland Orchestra in 1973, and, from 1968, Strauss’s Don Quixote under Sir Adrian Boult. This collection includes the very latest Abbey Road remasters of Du Pré’s recordings in one definitive boxed set and offers the listener the ultimate listening experience with a fantastic clarity of sound and dynamic range. The collection includes a full-colour 32-page booklet detailing the life and art of Du Pré in both words and pictures as well as a timeline overview of her career.

Martha Argerich's associations with violinist Gidon Kremer and cellist Mischa Maisky are surely among the pianist’s most substantial and musically rewarding collaborations. The present collection includes all of the Argerich/Kremer and Argerich/Maisky duo recordings for Deutsche Grammophon as originally released and in chronological order. Although Argerich has participated in numerous musical partnerships, not to mention her longtime mentoring of young artists, her associations with violinist Gidon Kremer and cellist Mischa Maisky are surely among the pianist's most substantial and musically rewarding collaborations. The present collection includes all of the Argerich/Kremer and Argerich/Maisky duo recordings for Deutsche Grammophon as originally released and in chronological order, allowing listeners the opportunity to trace each duo's evolution in terms of artistic rapport, sensitivity, risk-taking and the fine tuning of nuance.
