Galya - Key Of Dreams (2011)
New Age, Piano, Classical Crossover | MP3 320 kbps CBR | 48 min | 113 MB
Label: GALYA | Rel: 2011

"Key of Dreams" is the exciting follow-up to Galya's debut, "If Only," one of my favorite albums of 2010. Ukrainian by birth, conservatory-trained and the winner of international piano competitions, Galya has made her home in France for the past several years. Her stunning mastery of the piano gives her the freedom to express anything she wants with effortless grace and an elegant touch. The twelve piano solos on the album convey a wide range of emotions and experiences that are easy to relate to despite the complexity of the music.

Sokhiev - Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky (2006)
EAC Rip | Flac (Image + cue + log) | 1 CD | Full Scans | 354 MB
Genre: Classical | Label: Naive | Catalog Number: 5068

Recordings of Tchaikovsky symphonies are appearing less frequently since the great major label implosion of a few years ago, and the upside is that we can once again approach new releases with interest, and even anticipation. Conductor Tugan Sokhiev’s light, sinewy reading gives the impression of a fresh approach to this warhorse work. He elicits bold if not particularly brazen sounds from the Toulouse orchestra brass in the dramatic opening and throughout the first movement–especially the close, where I was once again reminded that this is pretty scary music. He achieves this effect not only by energetic tempos, but also by highlighting the harmonic tension Tchaikovsky built into the score, and by taking great care with the music’s unique timbral characteristics (woodwinds in particular).

Kaspars Putnins, Netherlands Radio Choir - Rachmaninov: Vespers (2014)
EAC Rip | Flac (Image + cue + log) | 1 CD | Full Scans | 213 MB
Genre: Classical | Label: Bis | Catalog Number: 2039

All-Night Vigil has been recognised as a supreme achievement in the music of the Russian Orthodox Church. Together with the choral symphony The Bells, it is one of Rachmaninov’s favourite compositions. As a coupling the Netherlands Radio Choir have chosen to record one of Rachmaninov's earliest works, composed in 1893 and unpublished in his lifetime. The Theotokos, Ever-Vigilant in Prayer is a hymn to the Virgin – ‘the one who gives birth to God’ – and clearly aims to exploit the skill of a first-class choir, with its varied textures, tempos and wide range of dynamics.

Aleck Karis - Piano Music of Philip Glass (2000)
EAC | FLAC | Image (Cue&Log) ~ 226 Mb (incl 5%) | Mp3 (CBR320) ~ 179 Mb (incl 5%) | Scans included
Genre: Classical, Minimalism | Label: Roméo Records | # 7204 | Time: 01:03:09

This CD presents several piano works by Philip Glass, played with grace and enthusiasm by Aleck Karis. Wichita Vortex Sutra (1988) was inspired by the poem of the same title by Allen Ginsburg from 1966, which alternates between images of a road across the U.S. and a protest against the war in Vietnam. The basis of the music is a simple Protestant-like hymn tune with chromatic passing tones. This is treated to rhythmic syncopation and, at other times, is surrounded by quickly arpeggiated patterns. The Metamorphosis (1988), with the title from Kafka's famous work, is in five movements. Each movement has simple melodies and a simple set of chords, usually four in number, with chromatic changes between them. These "changes" happen through the addition of a chord or other simple alteration. The pieces are moved along to the accompaniment of a plain two-note rotating figure. In Mad Rush (1981), various doublings and polyrhythms are superimposed and then subtracted at various points, which gives a rushing or slowing effect without any actual change in tempo.

Bach - Matthäus-Passion (Iván Fischer, Mark Padmore) (2012) [BluRay-rip]
Classical | BluRay-rip | AVC | MKV 1280x720 (16:9) / 4143 kbps / 29,970 fps | 174 min | 6,83GB
Audio: German / DTS / 6ch / 48.0 KHz / 24 bits
Sub: German, English, French, Spanish, Japanese

This 2012 recording of the most influential and wide spread oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach features the Hungarian conductor Iván Fischer, a visionary in his field, with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. The double choir is the essential musical aspect on which Iván Fischer’s interpretation of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion is based. Only by consistently seizing on that duality will all the complementary layers stand out as they should. He describes this essential fundamental aspect as follows: “You can’t do the St. Matthew in an unreligious way. The only approach is from a deep, universally religious feeling.”

Beethoven, Mozart - Claudio Abbado, Lucerne Festival Orchestra (2015)
Classical | Bluray-rip 720p | Audio: German | Subtitles: English, German, Korean, Japanese | Run time: 89 mins | 4.89 GB
AVC, MKV 1280x720 (16:9) 29.97fps, 6182kbps | DTS, 48000Hz, 6ch, 1510kbps

All are equal before the work, before the mysteries of a score; this was Claudio Abbado’s heart-felt conviction. For him, the willingness to be open to one another and to the independent life of musical processes was the only prerequisite for making music. In the live performances documented here for the first time on DVD/Blu-ray, Abbado could be sure of the devotion of these world-class artists: the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA, the sopranos Christine Schäfer and Juliane Banse, as well as the actor Bruno Ganz. They shared his credo of “listening togetherness” (DIE ZEIT) that made possible those precious moments of musical truth toward which this great conductor strove throughout his life.

The strings-only orchestra is complemented by a synthesizer producing a sound palette that harkens back to the Philip Glass of the 1970s. Genre: Classical | Label: Chandos | Catalog Number: 10841

This is the eagerly awaited second volume in the new collaboration between Chandos and Imogen Cooper. In this series, she brings her virtuosity and poetic touch to the repertoire of one of the central German romantic composers. Known as a Schubert expert, she has recently turned to Schumann in an equally successful way, which she proved in her much lauded first volume (CHAN10755). The Snape Maltings concert hall and Nicholas Marston’s detailed notes are respectively ‘an excellent complement’ (musicwebinternational.com) and ‘an added bonus’ (Gramophone) to the series.

Jurowski, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra - Schnittke: 3rd Symphony (2015)
EAC Rip | Flac (Image + cue + log) | 1 CD | Full Scans | 225 MB
Genre: Classical | Label: Pentatone | Catalog Number: 186485

One hundred and eleven musicians celebrating a large-scale symphony that sounds like Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, or Arnold Schoenberg. In fact, the composer of this symphony, Alfred Schnittke, had precisely these composers (and many others) in mind back in 1981. Whereas he initially mirrored certain styles from figures as Mahler, Mozart, Bach, Stravinsky, Prokofiev and Shostakovich, he was soon also borrowing concepts from trivial music, folklore, jazz, tango, as well as many other styles. He himself described his compositional technique, but an aesthetic programme: a serious effort to break through the vicious circle of the self-satisfied and self-sufficient avant-garde music.
