Megadeth - Peace Sells...but Who's Buying? (1986) (FLAC + DTS DVD-Audio ISO) [2003]
DVD Audio Image (.ISO) = 6.36 GB | FLAC 96Khz/24-bit Stereo = 880 MB | Scans PDF (800 dpi): 12.7 MB
Thrash Metal | MLP 6-channel 96Khz/24-bit | LPCM 96Khz/24-bit Stereo | DTS 96/24 5.1 channel surround

Arguably Megadeth's strongest effort and a classic of early thrash, Peace Sells combines a punkish political awareness with a dark, threatening, typically heavy metal world-view, preoccupied with evil, the occult, and the like. The anthemic title track and "Wake Up Dead" are the two major standouts, and there is also a cover of Willie Dixon's "I Ain't Superstitious," which takes on an air of supernaturally induced paranoia in the album's context. The lines between hell and earth are blurred throughout the album, and the crashing, complex music backs up Dave Mustaine's apocalyptic vision of life as damnation -- his limited vocal style is used to great effect, growling and snarling in a barely intelligible fashion under all the complicated guitar work. Vital, necessary thrash.

So what's that? Compressed to shit. But thanks, no one has to BUY that crap. It's only waste of time.

I'm not sure that this DR number would be dependable. I use TT DR Offline Meter 1.4 and most of mp3 files easily earn DR8 or better. So does that mean my mp3's better than this DVD-A? Does more compressed mean less quality? I feel sometimes people depend on DR number too much, but it doesn't show whole quality of music. What's the point?

Here's a sample of the FLACs (track 7, 64 MB), in case anyone want to give it a listen and decide for himself:

Jesus, I find myself agreeing with durant35(regarding the crowd's general obsession with DR alone); shoot me now.....

Thanks for posting Megadeth DVDA.

I actually own this one. As it less than $15 at most online stores.

I ran into a problem when ripping it. At least with the DVDA to flac or wav.
For some reason it thinks the last track are two chapters. So it outputted 2 files
the first file with all but the last 10 seconds and the second file with 10 seconds.
Since combining flac files is difficult I set the ripper to output as wav.

I used the old standard from the dos days.
copy /b a.wav + b.wav c.wav
then I converted the resulting wav file to flac.

It sounded correct to me but can any experts tell me if that was the incorrect method?

thanks

@durant35: What is your point? You're comparing apples to oranges. Are your DR8 mp3's sourced from this particular release? I have just extracted the WAV files from VIDEO_TS (24/96) and it is DR5.
The hard rock / metal music may be not very dynamic (everything is loud here) but DR5 is far from good one.

@someotherguy

No, you're doing it wrong - at least in theory. In practise, the RIFF WAVE file standard (Microsoft/IBM) is not very clearly specified, so apparently someprogrammers substituted imagination for understanding, resulting in wav files which were not in the form initially envisioned by the standard, but still could be consistenly parsed with little additional effort. So support for such files (at least for reading) appeared in other programs as well.

Apparently, your method worked for you, so everything is fine. If a software would interpret the standard very strictly, it would only load the first part (originally a.wav in your case) from the combined file (c.wav), ignoring the all other parts (b.wav in your case).

@KayEss

Yes that is exactly what happened when I used copy /b with the two flac files. It ignored "b.flac". But foobar, vlc, & windows media player had no problem with the copy /b wav file. So converting to flac was no problem.
